What if I forget my access details?

Last updated:

You can recover your login password from the login screen. A lost encryption key can be recovered in your account settings, but only with the 6 recovery words you received when you created it. Sejf Życia does not store those words: without the key and without the recovery words, encrypted data cannot be read.

Forgotten password

On the login screen, choose the password-recovery option and follow the instructions shown on your device.

This applies to signing in with an email address and password. When you sign in through login.gov.pl, with an e-ID card or mObywatel, you do not need a Sejf Życia password.

Lost encryption key

You can recover your encryption key after logging into the app. Click the icon with your initials, then “Settings”, go to the “Account security” tab and choose “Recover key”. You need the 6 recovery words you received when you created your encryption key.

Why we cannot restore the recovery words

Documents are encrypted on your device before they reach Sejf Życia, so an administrator sees only encrypted data. We do not store the recovery words and cannot restore them for you. If you lose both the encryption key and the recovery words, you lose access to your encrypted data.

Where to keep the recovery words

Write them down or print them and keep them somewhere safe, away from the device you use Sejf Życia on. If you lose your phone, you will not lose the only copy with it. You can also store them in a password manager, as long as the manager itself is well protected.

Never give anyone your one-time codes, encryption key or recovery words, however they reached you.
