The deadline does not run from the death but from the document confirming the inheritance: a final court order or a notarial certificate of succession. Since 2026 it is 60 days (previously 30). Until then the car stays registered in the deceased person’s name and may be used as long as the third-party liability insurance is paid. The administrative penalty for a late application is PLN 500, rising to PLN 1,000 when the delay exceeds 180 days. An heir who sells the car straight away does not need to re-register it, but must report the sale within 30 days.
