Third-party liability (OC) insurance is attached to the vehicle, so on the owner’s death the rights and obligations under the policy pass to the heirs. The policy protects until the end of the period it was taken out for, but after the change of ownership it does not renew automatically: a new policy must be taken out before it ends. An heir may also cancel the inherited policy at any time and buy another. The insurer may recalculate the premium for the new holder. For every day without cover the Insurance Guarantee Fund (UFG) imposes a penalty, which for a gap longer than 14 days reaches twice the minimum monthly wage.
