The funeral home settles with the person who signed the order. That person is not left with the bill alone: the ZUS funeral benefit (PLN 7,000) goes to whoever covered the costs, the bank refunds documented funeral costs from the deceased person’s account, and any excess can be settled as an estate debt when the estate is divided (Article 922 § 3 of the Civil Code). The condition: invoices in your own name and a funeral of a scale in keeping with local custom.
